University of Nevada Las Vegas quarterback Matthew Sluka has left the program following a dispute over Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) money. Sluka鈥檚 agent, Marcus Cromartie, told ESPN that the player was verbally promised a 鈥渕inimum of $100,000鈥 to join UNLV by an assistant coach; however, the money wasn鈥檛 paid. Cromartie added that there has been 鈥渘o effort鈥 from the school鈥檚 NIL collective to offer a contract worth the promised amount. Sluka, who has reportedly received $3,000 for relocation expenses, was offered the same amount per month to play with the Rebels this season, according to his family. Sluka announced that he will be redshirting this season, which will allow him to maintain a year of college eligibility before moving school when the transfer portal opens in December. 鈥淚 have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season. I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future,鈥 said Matthew Sluka. Blueprint Sports, which manages UNLV鈥檚 NIL Collective 鈥淔riends of UNLV,鈥 has said that there were 鈥渘o formal NIL offers made during Mr. Sluka鈥檚 recruitment process.鈥
